Flight Attendant Disaster Relief

The Wings Foundation is the sole proprietor of the Flight Attendant Disaster Relief Fund (FADR).

The Fund was established in 1991, in the aftermath of a series of natural disasters that struck in areas where American Airlines Flight Attendants lived & worked.

Wings FADR provides immediate short-term relief to AA Flight Attendants whose primary residence is damaged or destroyed by a catastrophic event or natural disaster. The program may provide for the purchase of such essentials as food, water & temporary shelter.

Funds are raised primarily through the WINGS Onboard Recycling Program. This voluntary program relies on AA Flight Attendants to collect aluminum cans on board all American Airlines flights. In 2017, over $135,000 in assistance was distributed to AA Flight Attendants who were affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, & Maria, and the Wild Fires that spread though California.

The Wings Foundation is thinking about our American Airlines colleagues and their families who have been affected and are currently suffering from the recent disasters on Hawai'i and the East Coast. The Hawaiian Islands have been impacted multiple times — the erupting Kilauea Volcano, hurricane, wild fire and tropical depression. We wish them well as they navigate through this process and get their homes in order.

Hurricane Florence made landfall more than a week ago and is still creating devastation on the East Coast. The flooding is so severe that many people can't analyze what has happened to their homes at this time, not to mention the many lives that have been lost due to this storm. Unfortunately, the flooding will get worse before getting better.

The Flight Attendant Disaster Relief Fund is available to those who qualify for assistance.

Please call: 707-235-3569

or email: krichelle.fadr@wingsfoundation.com with your contact information, so we can talk with you further. Please note: the window to apply is six months from the date of the disaster.

Finally, we also want to remember those who are still recovering from last year's devastating hurricanes and fires. Our colleagues from all across the nation have been struck hard this past year. Please keep your thoughts and donations for the Flight Attendant Disaster Relief Fund coming in for our fellow Flight Attendants. We also ask that you encourage others to recycle cans onboard flights to keep the Flight Attendant Disaster Relief Fund viable. Without the aluminum recycling, this fund would not exist.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. All your efforts afford us the opportunity to assist our co-workers during these difficult times.

Sincerely,
Krichelle Zúñiga
